Kakira Sugar

Part of a widely diversified regional conglomerate, the Madhvani Group, Kakira Sugar has received EADB support for one of its most ambitious and trend-setting projects: East Africa’s first electricity co-generation venture. The first such project in the region by a sugar miller, the trend has since been replicated by a number of sugar millers in the region. The project, which aims at assuring the sugar miller of a high-integrity electricity line and cost savings, has also spawned a new revenue stream for the firm.
