Aponye
In September 2015, EADB approved a loan of UGX 12 billion to Aponye to co-finance the development of a large and fully mechanized grain storage and processing/value addition facility.
Aponye has been paramount in achieving the Ugandan government’s objective to alleviate poverty and to drive industrialisation through agricultural processing and value added and through reducing post-harvest losses. Furthermore, the project has supported skills development amongst rural communities through a farmer outreach training programme. Aponye’s grain processing facility has created 200 permanent jobs on site and has improved the incomes of approximately 10,000 smallholder farmers who access the facility. The project also contributes over UGX 2 billion per annum in government revenue and is expected to provide foreign exchange when supplying regional markets.
