EADB HEAD HONOURED FOR OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION TO BANKING

The Centre for Economic and Leadership Development (CELD), has named Ms. Vivienne Yeda, the EADB Director General, the winner of its 2014 Africa Female Economic Champion Award – Banking. Ms. Yeda was also inducted into the Global Women Leaders Hall of Fame, 2014.

The Award was conferred at the Africa – Middle East – Asia Women Summit 2014 on November 21 in Dubai, UAE. In a statement, CELD said the award is aimed at shining the spotlight and celebrating women leaders who are shattering stereotypes and beating the odds while transforming communities, countries, economies and cultures.

The Summit’s theme was ‘emerging economies: closing the credit gap and investing in women for sustainable development. It brought together prominent women and stakeholders from Africa, Middle East and Asia to recognise and seize the untapped and profitable opportunities that women’s economic and political engagements represent.

Past CELD Awardees include the former President of Malawi, H.E. Joyce Banda; Zimbabwe Vice President, Hon. Joice Mujuru and Ida Odinga, wife of the former Prime Minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga.

The Awards are coordinated by CELD in collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UN ECOSOC) and CEO Clubs Network Worldwide. CELD is a non-governmental organisation with special consultative status with UN ECOSOC.

Last September, Ms. Yeda scooped the Africa-America Institute’s 2014 Business Leader Award at the institute’s 30th Annual Awards Gala Honors, held in New York. The award was in recognition of her two decades of distinguished contribution to the world of development banking, finance and business in Africa.
