The Governing Council, Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the East African Development Bank join family, friends and East Africa in paying tribute to our esteemed former Chairman of the Board of Directors and adviser, Mr. Christopher Kassami, who passed away on Friday March 11, 2016, at the Nairobi Hospital, Kenya.
The Late Kassami represented the Republic of Uganda, as Director, on the Board of Directors of the East African Development Bank from March 26, 2001 to April 5, 2013 where he was the Chairman of the Board from November 3, 2011 until May 24, 2013, when he retired as Permanent Secretary and Secretary to Treasury, Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development of the Republic of Uganda.
The Late Kassami worked tirelessly to encourage economic development in Uganda, and East Africa. During his tenure at EADB he oversaw the transformation of the Bank, reinforced many international relationships and at his retirement in 2013 saw EADB voted as a leading financial institution in Africa.
He was a firm believer in the effectiveness of the public and private sector partnership in furthering economic development. After retirement from the public service in 2013, he served as, director on the boards of a number of private companies.
He was ‘an accomplished Economist and diplomat, who exercised a wide consultative approach to solving problems, thereby enabling him to contribute greatly towards the development of major policies that positively influenced the region’s economic development’, and achieved ‘an exceptional track record of accomplishments’.
The Late Kassami was a consummate civil servant and mentor, a trusted and respected friend, father and husband. He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Proscovia Kassami and four children.
Fare thee well, Mr.Kassami. You have fought the good fight, you have run the race and kept the faith.
